So, I’m sat at work and thinking about my Sundays and how they’ve looked for the last few years and the last 6 months in particular. I’ve been up since 6am, I’ve been serving (free labour in Christian terms) from 7:30am until 1pm, I rushed home and now I’m working from 2pm until 10pm. Now that doesn’t seem like the kind of Sabbath the Israelites were told to keep in Leviticus. So should I scrap all my commitments on Sundays to make it my Sabbath? Or should I keep serving on Sundays and make another day my day of rest?
I’ve always tried to keep another day in my week as my day of rest, but in today’s culture of continual activity, its not easy. And I’m just a volunteer! Imagine if I was employed to work in a church environment… Obviously it requires some serious self-discipline and some letting go of current commitments. Which is why I’m taking part in a Daniel Fast over the next 3 weeks. I felt that the new year was a great time to do something that I’d always wanted to do, but never had the motivation to start, or the discipline to stick to. So when my extension service said that they were going to do it as a group, I knew that the time was right.
For those who don’t know what a ‘Daniel Fast’ entails, it comes from the scripture Daniel 10:3 and without going into too much detail, it’s a fast where I’m only allowed to eat fruit or vegetables (with the exception of oats, brown rice and wholemeal unleavened bread). And for those who want to learn a little more about it, check out

So hopefully, by the end of the next few weeks, I’ll have a greater clarity into my personal Sabbath and what that should look like.
Peace, blessings and much love,
Logan
